Almost everyone will develop a skin tag in their lifetime, although obese people are more at risk. But regardless of how or when you got a skin tag, one thing we know is that they can be irritating and unpleasant.
Skin tags are caused by collagen and blood vessels becoming trapped inside thicker bits of skin and tend to appear where there are folds and creases such as your armpits, neck and eyes.
People with diabetes are also susceptible to skin tags. The good news is that skin tags are harmless and are able to be removed without returning.
If you don’t want to take matters into your own hands via clippers or scissors, there are a number of ways to reduce your skin tags and to make sure they don’t come back.
1. Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil has anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties and it works to dry out the skin tag so that it falls off on its own. All you need to do is soak a clean cotton ball in water and tea tree oil then rub on a cleaned skin tag.
2. Lemon juice
The citric acid in lemon juice helps to dry out skin tags by decomposing the cells. Take a half of a lemon and apply the juice to a cotton ball, then put on the skin tag without washing it off. Do this up to three times a day and continue the routine until the skin tag falls off.
3. Apple cider vinegar
Another acidic remedy but this one is with ACV. Soak a cotton ball with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and apply it to the skin tag. To avoid stinging and itching, dilute the vinegar with some water.
Fresh garlic has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. Grind 4 garlic cloves into a paste and apply directly to the skin tag. Place a bandage over the tag and leave overnight. Repeat as necessary.
5. Banana peel
Cut a banana peel into small pieces and place on affected area. Let it rest overnight and repeat this process daily until the skin tag falls off.
6. Pineapple juice
Pineapples have great anti-inflammatory properties and are good for blood thinning. Apply pineapple juice on the affected area twice a day for 7 to 10 days without rinsing.
7. Aloe vera gel
Aloe vera needs no introduction – it’s a great all-rounder. Apply the aloe vera juice directly on the skin tag and leave to absorb. Do this every day until it falls off or disappears naturally.
Rub slices of raw ginger on the affected area for about two weeks to see results.
