How much do I need to retire comfortably at 65 in Australia?

Oct 07, 2021

The basic rule of thumb often cited by financial gurus is that you need at least 70 per cent of your later-life annual pre-retirement salary to retire comfortably. But this is not an official number. The Retirement Standard, a benchmark updated by ASFA, defines a comfortable income in retirement for those aged around 65 years of age in March 2021 as:
Single: $44,412 per year
Couple: $62,828 per year
