Kerri-Anne Kennerley ‘joins Studio 10 as new host’ after major stars quit

She’s enjoyed a career spanning decades on Australian TV, before taking a slight step back in recent years to focus on quality time with her husband John following his devastating accident.

However, Kerri-Anne Kennerley is set to make a huge return to screens across the country as she’s reportedly been confirmed as the new host on Channel 10’s morning TV show Studio 10, alongside the likes of Sarah Harris, Angela Bishop and Joe Hildebrand.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the star, 64, will work just two days a week on the show while juggling time spent with family and her husband at home – something she insisted is her top priority.

In May of 2016, then-75-year-old John suffered severe spinal injuries after falling from a balcony at a golf course. The courageous man was left an incomplete quadriplegic and bound to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Admitting she has previously declined offers to return to morning TV, Kerri-Anne told the news outlet she finally feels ready to make the commitment – but will ensure she still has plenty of time with her husband too.

“I do not want to do any more [days a week] because I value my life and lifestyle and time with my husband John. I don’t want to slog at life,” she explained. “I am now in the wonderful part of my life where I can make choices for me. It is a bit of have fun, all care and no responsibility.”

However, she admitted in the interview that she’s concerned about the show’s low ratings. It’s claimed Studio 10 has around 50,000 viewers in capital cities daily, which she described as “pretty shocking”.

Kerri-Anne – who recently attended a 2018 Dream Ball event with her husband in a glamorous red dress, strikingly similar to the one she wore for the Logie Awards – has previously blamed the fact the show is aired on Channel 10 for the low ratings, but now believes it has a chance to improve after the network was bought by CBS.

It comes after hosts Ita Buttrose and Jessica Rowe quit the show just months ago, while Denise Drysdale announced recently she would also be taking a break for a few months after considering packing it in for good.

“I thought I would be leaving,” Denise said at the time. “I’ve been doing this job and touring for 54 years and it’s been getting to me and I’m just sick of the travel and sick of sleeping in other people’s beds… I went to Luce [Studio 10 executive producer] and said, ‘look, I need to go’ and then I had a meeting.”

Producers didn’t want the Gold Logie winner to leave forever and told her to have a break and come back when she’s ready.

“How lucky am I?” she said. “At my age to still be working, but to have that opportunity to go and have a little break.”
