Catherine leads the fashion pack in green alongside Camilla and Melania Trump

The Duchess of Cambridge joined other senior members of the British royal family on Tuesday evening as she attended a special reception at Buckingham Palace, with Her Majesty the Queen welcoming NATO leaders from around the world into her home.

The event, hosted by the monarch, was held to mark the alliance’s 70th anniversary and world leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, US President Donald Trump and heir to the throne Prince Charles were in attendance.

Catherine stepped out for the occasion alongside Queen Elizabeth II, the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, the Princess Royal and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, however her husband Prince William was notably absent.

The duchess looked sensational for the palace reception in a stunning emerald green frock which oozed sophistication thanks to its classic cut, long-sleeves and high neck and Catherine rounded off the elegant look with a pair of dazzling drop earrings.

While Catherine is used to experimenting with colour when it comes to her wardrobe, someone who usually sticks to a more neutral palette is the Duchess of Cornwall, who tends to favour pastel colours or monochromatic outfits. However Camilla bucked the trend last night as she stepped out in a vibrant red frock.

The duchess was striking in the cherry red dress which featured long sleeves and a dropped waist with a pleated skirt. Wearing one of her signature multi-strand pearl necklaces, Camilla completed her outfit with a sophisticated black cape jacket, opaque stockings and black court shoes.

Prior to the palace reception, Camilla and Prince Charles welcomed the US President and First Lady into their home Clarence House for tea where the foursome posed for photographs. They then made their way to the palace for the NATO event.

Melania also opted for a daring outfit on Tuesday as she donned an eye-catching bright yellow Valentino coat for the palace event. The First Lady appeared to be wearing the cape-style jacket over an equally vibrant fuchsia dress with matching stiletto heels in the same shade.

Also wrapping up against the cold, Donald Trump wore a smart navy suit for the momentous occasion with a bright blue tie and a matching navy overcoat, while Prince Charles stepped out in a pinstripe navy suit.

NATO leaders are currently in London for the NATO Leaders’ Meeting 2019 and it seems things are not running quite so smoothly as President Macron and President Trump locked horns on Tuesday, with the US President describing the French leader as “very, very nasty” after Macron described NATO as brain dead in a magazine interview last month.

However Macron said just hours ago that he stands by his comments, writing on Twitter: “My statements on NATO triggered some reactions. I do stand by them. It is a burden we share: we can’t put money and pay the cost of our soldiers’ lives without being clear on the fundamentals of what NATO should be. Tomorrow, I will stand up for the French and European interests.”
