‘Just spat my tea out!’ Bizarre front thong fashion trend sends internet wild

There have been some weird and wonderful fashion trends over the years, from oversized shoulder pads right through to bullet bras — but the latest invention is arguably one of the most confusing yet.

The bizarre new bodysuit, dubbed the ‘front thong’, is sending internet users wild as some brand it a “crime against humanity” while others question how it’s even possible to walk in it.

The Basic V Neck Ruched Front Thong Bodysuit, sold by online retailer Boohoo, features long sleeves and a basic style top. However, it’s the attaching strap at the bottom that has got women talking online, as it appears far too thin to be in any way appropriate.

The online description reads: “Clothes to make you feel like you, but BETTER. Go on treat yourself babe,” but it’s done nothing to stop the stream of hilarious comments from confused shoppers.

Taking to online forum Mumsnet, one woman admitted the endless funny comments had made her spit her tea out as one person wrote: “Front thong… Two words that should never be linked together,” while another added: “I mean it’s great if you’re intending on standing completely still whilst wearing it, but one stride too many and that’s a whole new level of flossing.”

Another joked: “It’s got a modest sleeve, and isn’t too low-cut, making it perfect for church,” while one added: “Eyes watering just looking at that crime against humanity.”

Meanwhile, one person commented: “Only someone who hates their f***** would wear that,” and one even joked: “I wonder whether whoever designed this would actually be brave enough to wear it. Hope the model was paid a risk adjustment premium on her on top of her fees.”

While the bodysuit comes in four vibrant colours, the white one appears to be the skimpiest on the retailer’s website and the bizarre photos left shoppers very confused. Many claimed the model must have been heavily photoshopped to make the look possible.

The white bodysuits appear to have since sold out from Boohoo’s official website, but are still available from other retailers online — selling at the reduced price of £8 (AU$14, US$10) plus shipping.

It’s certainly not the first fashion trend to leave people scratching their heads, and just recently ’80s bikinis with those signature super-high sides began to make a comeback too, ready to torture a new generation of young women.

The revealing trend for bikinis has been sweeping beaches all over the world in recent months, just as it did in the ’80s (though, in the ’80s, it was joined by super-high-cut leotards with a thong/g-string back over leggings in the gym).

What do you think of the new fashion trend?
