Part of the admissions procedure in the hospital was to ask new patients if they suffered from any allergies.
If they did, they would have it printed on a special ‘allergy band’ which was then placed on the patient’s wrist as a reference for all other hospital employees.
On one particular occasion a nurse asked an elderly woman if she had any allergies. The old woman responded by saying that she was unable to eat bananas. The nurse made her up a band and carried on with her day. A few hours later the nurse went to check on the old lady only to see her son was sitting by her bed.
Angrily, the son stopped the nurse and asked: “Are you the one responsible for labelling my mother ‘bananas’?!”
