We did not have any electricity and had to use kerosene lamps. There was no fridge or freezer, no television or radio.

I am retired. Born in Denmark, I only had seven years schooling where I did a one-year infant cource and a three-year mental handicapped course. As a teenager I worked on farms, and spent six months working in a bakery. I went to a special kind of boarding school for six months as a teenager. I moved to Australia with my late husband and two children, and have been working most of my life. I have run a daycare center, have been a cleaner and shop assistant, have been in charge of fresh produce at Woolworths, and worked for Kmart in different departments, finishing up in charge of haberdashery and fabric, curtains etc.
