Outrage at Daniel Morcombe’s killer’s latest privilege

Can you believe this? The man who killed Daniel Morcombe has been granted special permission to use a different name

Can you believe this?

The man who killed Daniel Morcombe has been granted special permission to use a different name in prison.

Just weeks after he was left permanently disfigured after being attacked with boiling water, Brett Peter Cowan is reportedly being called a new name.

You might be wondering how it got this?

Well, it all started back in 2013 when Cowan legally changed his name to Shaddo N-unyah Hunter.

Apparently he told detectives Shaddo was his dog’s name.

What about N-unyah?

That apparently stands for “none of your business”, so Newscorp is reporting.

It makes you wonder what law allows this?

A Queensland Corrective Services spokesman told AAP that prisoners like Cowan, who are born in another state, are entitled to be addressed as their new identity.

If you’re feeling outraged about this, you’re not the only one.

The move has been widely criticised, with a prison source telling the Courier Mail that they “can’t believe the department agreed to change it”.

“It (the name change) could be to take pressure off him,” the source reportedly said.

Last week it was reported that Cowan had a price on his head in jail, which would explain why earlier this year he was placed in a protective cell and why he was attacked when he was moved into a general unit of the prison.

Cowan will spend the rest of his life behind bars, serving a life sentence for the abduction and murder of Daniel in 2003.

Are you outraged by this? Should Cowan be allowed to change his name? Or does he deserve to keep his birth name in prison?

  1. Lyn mcgowran

He killed in he most vile way – so is he too cowardly to face the consequences of his actions?

  2. Trevor

They should brand him like in the old days,

  3. L. Roche

Oh…poor baby, as if changing his name is going to protect him. He deserves everything he gets and any punishment dolled out by another prisoner should earn them a reduction in their sentence

  4. Greg Hills

He has forfeited any rights as an Australian citizen. He shouldn’t ever be allowed out of jail, let alone be given the chance to change his name. He did the crime, let him stay in prison and risk being killed by other prisoners. One day, they will get him. Just a matter of time, and no one will even blink an eye, it will just be true justice!

  5. Melissa

…….and this vile piece of filth thinks that a name change will ‘save’ him from ‘prisoner justice’?

Why is this being done? He’s not a ‘free man’. He’s a criminal, of the worst kind, & he has NO rights!
He gave those up the moment he abducted, & killed young Daniel.

Greatest load of garbage I’ve heard in a long time.
Just goes to prove it’s all about the criminals’, & NOT about the victim, or his family.

Disgusting decision, just out & out disgusting, & whoever allowed it to happen should hang their head with GREAT shame!

Damn shame we can’t send Cowan, & many others’ of his ilk, to ‘Devil’s Island’, to rot!

  6. Di Field

This scum of the earth should have no rights, let him take his punishment from his peers. He offered Daniel no rights .
Our judicial system is nothing but a big joke .

  7. L Dancey-Ball

I don’t care what name he goes by as long as he stays in jail.
