Michael Caine: ‘I know my days are numbered’

The actor has become an on-screen legend over the years.

Iconic British actor Sir Michael Caine has revealed his health worries, saying he fears he will die of cancer.

Caine says he has tried to improve his odds of living longer by overhauling his diet and dropping 12kg in a bid to see his grandchildren grow up.

In an interview with The Sun, he said he used to “drink a bottle of vodka and smoke several packets of cigarettes a day”.

“I know my days are numbered and that’s the main worry,” he told the paper.

“I’ve had to cut back on the drinking and I’m always looking up what’s the best thing against cancer, so I’ll eat that or do this or not do that.

“I’ll probably drop dead talking to you but you know I’ve lost 30lbs just because I want to see my grandchildren. They’re twins of six and a boy of seven. I’d like to get to 17 for the boy.”

He said he’s cut salt, gluten and sugar from his diet. He also credited his wife Shakira for pulling him out of the destructive lifestyle he lead for years, saying he wouldn’t be alive without her.

Caine has previously said he used to smoke several packs of cigarettes a day before finally kicking the habit.
