There has been a number of sickening attacks on Baby Boomers in recent times and if a segment on Wednesday night’s episode of A Current Affair is anything to go by, it shows no signs of slowing down.

Bala, a 61-year-old man who runs the Enmore post office in New South Wales, was caught in a terrifying situation when a customer launched an unprovoked attack on him and his son, Gagan. According to the report, the customer became violent when he simply couldn’t take no for an answer.

Bala knows most of the locals who come into his Sydney post office but had never seen the man who launched an attack on him before. The man wanted to pick up a parcel. As you may recall, you’re usually required to show your proof of address when picking up a parcel or letter from the post office.

“When I checked his ID, he has produced a passport and since it’s a very secure parcel, we had to ask if he had the address as well,” Bala explained.

“He had about 90 per cent of the ID required, Gagan added. “He just needed to show a little bit extra.”

When Bala refused to budge on the policy, the customer started to become angry and the exchange quickly became heated. In shocking scenes, the man could be seen jumping over the counter in front of other shocked customers and began bashing a defenceless Bala.

In a disturbing fit of anger, he can be seen grabbing Bala’s throat while punching him in the head. Eventually, the post office worker fell to the floor.

“I was totally blanked out,” Bala recalled. “I don’t really know how to react to this.”

“It was an absolute nightmare,” Gagan told A Current Affair. “It was a complete nightmare.”

He was working out the back and noticed his father was under attack via the store’s security cameras. He rushed to help. They were no match for the customer, who continued to swear and push his way past the pair to get his parcel. He eventually took a box – which he thought was his – and fled the scene. Quickly realising it wasn’t his item, he returned to the store.

Upon the customer’s return, Bala was on the floor in pain and couldn’t stand up because one of his knee caps dislocated, according to his son. Still, he continued to attack the 61-year-old.

The man didn’t end up leaving the store with the package he’d originally ordered.

His wife Shaila appeared on the show with tears in her eyes and said: “I’ve only got one son and losing them both could have been shattering.”

She also said she thought the customer needed anger-management and someone to help him.

“I’m really shattered,” she added. “I don’t want anyone to go through this at all.”
