5 most scenic spots in Tasmania

Tasmania is unlike any other place in Australia. Separate from the mainland, the isolation, diverse terrain and several different climates have created a variety of spectacular environmental formations including profound wilderness, jagged coastlines, towering mountains and unique fauna and flora. If you do find yourself in this particularly pretty part of the world, here are the most scenic spots in the state, so have your camera at the ready while you’re at it.

1. Wineglass Bay

Located in Freycinet National Park on the east coast of the state, Wineglass Bay is likely one of the most iconic places in Tasmania. Take in the area via the hiking trails, jump on an eco-cruise or simply lay out your beach towel and enjoy the view.

2. Bay of Fires

Famous for its bright lichen-covered granite stones along the shoreline, Bay of Fires runs along the coast from Binalong Bay to Eddystone Point. The soft white sands contrasts with the blue waters and orange hue of the boulders, creating one of the most scenic stops in the state.

3. Bridestowe Lavender Estate

Any traveller visiting Bridestowe Lavender Estate will be tempted to take a photo of the fields with an iconic lavender ice-cream in hand. The seemingly endless paddocks of purple and the sweet smell in the air are blooming lovely to behold.

4. Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain is Tasmania’s highest peak and reaches 1,545 metres high. The Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park was named a World Heritage National Park in 1982 and is home to spectacular views from all viewpoints.

5. MONA

Home of controversial collections, modern art and antique displays, the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart is for all of the senses. With more than 300 pieces exhibited at any one time, with a winery and set on the banks of the Derwent River, the gallery is something to look at both inside and out.
