Much has been said about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming visit to Colombia, with numerous royal experts offering their insights into the couple’s plans.
While many in Colombia eagerly await the couple’s visit, reactions have been mixed, with some questioning its significance and others openly criticising the couple for their unofficial royal activities.
Despite the uproar, the reaction from the Royal Family is expected to be quite mild with royal reporter Ephraim Hardcastle suggesting that the visit is not expected to “upset” members of The Firm.
“Harry and Meghan’s trip to Colombia later this year won’t upset the King and the Prince of Wales. They feared the Sussex duo might choose a different destination: a headline-stealing jaunt to the Paris Olympics,” he wrote in a column for the Daily Mail.
“Monarchs and crown princes from across the globe have been in the French capital along with Hollywood royalty. The presence of Harry and Meghan would not have amused Charles or his heir. “
While members of the Royal Family may not be too fussed about Harry and Meghan’s latest jaunt, royal author Angela Levin is certainly not pleased with the couple’s plans, criticising the pair after Harry’s insistence on the dangers posed to his family should they return to the UK, citing specific threats that he believes make it too risky for Meghan to travel back to his homeland.
Levin questioned how he reconciles this concern with a trip to Colombia, where the UK Foreign Office currently advises against all but essential travel to certain areas of the South American country.
“It is dangerous there [Colombia] at the moment”, she told GB News.
“There is a lot of people being taken away and money being demanded for them to be returned.
“It is really ridiculous and it conforms to my long term suggestion that they tried to manipulate the King.
“To have three court cases on the Home Office and saying security is why he won’t bring his wife and children when really it’s a nonsense.
“He would be well looked after with good protection, but not the very top of the tree which is just for Camilla, Charles, William and Catherine.”
