It’s no secret that the relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William has been under considerable strain for some time.
Since stepping back from his royal duties in 2020 with Meghan Markle, Harry has remained estranged from his family across the pond, especially from his brother.
Adding to the tensions were revelations made in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where Harry and Meghan candidly discussed their struggles within the royal institution. This was followed by the release of Harry’s candid memoir and a series of interviews in which he continued to criticise The Firm.
While some still cling to hope that one day the brothers will reconcile, former royal reporter Michael Cole is not so optimistic, claiming there is “too much bad blood” between the pair.
“William has done his duty. In great contrast to Prince Harry. Now, I don’t think there’s any chance at all of there being a reconciliation with the brothers now or in the foreseeable future,” Cole told GB News.
“It goes back to Oprah Winfrey interview, then the book Spare and all the things that were said in the Netflix six part series.
“There is too much bad blood. William is not going to forgive that, principally because he, of course, and his wife attacked personally, his wife, Kate.
“Even when the announcement of her cancer was mad their mealy mouthed response to it didn’t show any great concern for her.
“William looks at them and and he would say what most people would say. All of this is completely unnecessary.
“Prince Harry has had a wonderful, privileged life. He owes everything to being a member of the Royal Family. He’s good looking. He’s married to a beautiful wife. He’s got two healthy, beautiful children.”
“He’s got more money than we could shake a stick at. People who are struggling, people who are battling would wonder why he’s so upset.”
Cole’s comments come after the controversial royal was recently given another dire warning about running out of time to reconcile with the Royal Family and rejoin their ranks.
Although reports indicate that Harry is eager to reintegrate into royal life with his family, Richard Eden, Diary Editor of the Daily Mail and a royal expert, advises that he should act promptly if he wishes to reclaim his position within The Firm.
“Charles thought that when Harry had a family, they would be carrying out engagements and sharing those duties with William so, I think time is running out,” he told Mail+’s weekly talk show.
“If Harry wants to come back at any stage, he needs to do it while his father is still King.”
Eden suggested that should Harry delay his return, he may miss the opportunity, especially if he waits until his brother Prince William is King.
“I really think that when Prince William is King, I can’t see him letting Harry come back and have a role again,” he said.
“They are irrelevant now, they are just not wanted as part of the monarchy.
“Maybe there could be some radical change but it’s hard to see.”
