After a brief hiatus from public duties due to health concerns, King Charles is poised to step back into the limelight, embracing his royal responsibilities with a determination reminiscent of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The Monarch stepped back from royal duties when health issues first came to light during a hospital stay for a procedure related to benign prostate enlargement, earlier this year.

Subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer, prompting the King to commence a schedule of regular treatments. While he continued to undertake state business and official paperwork, public-facing duties were postponed on medical advice.

However, in news that has left royal watchers delighted, it was recently revealed that King Charles is set to return to public duties for the first time since his cancer diagnosis.

Journalist Nicholas Owen, speaking to GB News, shed light on King Charles’s approach, drawing parallels to the enduring legacy of his mother’s tireless dedication to duty, as the King “diligently” follows suit.

“You’ve got to be seen to be believed,” Owen said

“This philosophy went back a lot further than that. I think it was George III, who had a lot of children, they were a bit of a reluctant bunch.

“He got very cross with them and he said, ‘the most important thing about us is we have to be seen, our job is to be out there’.

“That’s gone right through. Her Majesty the Queen took that view. It turns out that after the Queen’s death, she had more bouts of illness than you might have expected in her life.

“But if you looked at her diary and look back at what she’d done, looked at all the films over the years, the TV coverage and so on for endless work, she was so stoic.”

King Charles’ first official engagement will take place on Tuesday, April 30 with a visit to a cancer treatment centre in London.

Buckingham Palace announced details of Charles’ return in a statement shared on social media, accompanied by a new image of The King and Queen.

“His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis,” the statement read.

“To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment centre next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients. This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead.

“In addition, The King and Queen will host Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan for a State Visit in June, at the request of HM Government.

“As the first anniversary of The Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year.”
