Simon Cowell has broken his back in several places after falling from an electric bike in the courtyard of his home in Malibu, California, reports the BBC. The 60-year-old underwent surgery on his spine over the weekend and is said to be recovering well.

“Simon has broken his back and is having surgery this evening,” a spokesperson for the Britain’s Got Talent star told the British broadcaster: “He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands.”

The music mogul, who now lives in Los Angeles with his partner Lauren Silverman and their six-year-old son Eric, was reportedly testing out his new electric bicycle when he fell.

Many people wished Simon well, after the news was confirmed, including his Britain’s Got Talent co-star Piers Morgan who wrote on Twitter: “So sorry to hear this. Sounds a very nasty accident. I wish Simon a successful operation and a full & speedy recovery.”

Supermodel Heidi Klum said: “Wishing you a speedy recovery @simoncowell.” While America’s Got Talent judge Sofia Vergara said: “We miss our boss!! Come back fast @simoncowell!!”

Cowell previously suffered a fall back in 2017, after he fainted at home in London and fell down the stairs. Appearing on British talk show This Morning, the former American Idol judge said that it all happened when he went to get a drink.

“Well, it’s kind of embarrassing, actually,” he admitted at the time. “I went down to get some milk, which isn’t very rock and roll. Because I was feeling a little bit light-headed and then I fell down the staircase.

“I thought I was dead, first of all. I swear to God … We both thought I’d broken my neck.”
