Channel Nine star Richard Wilkins has tested positive for coronavirus. The 65-year-old television personality confirmed the news on social media on Sunday evening.

His diagnosis comes just days after he came into contact with Hollywood star Rita Wilson, who last week revealed she had tested positive for the virus alongside husband Tom Hanks.

The veteran entertainment journalist added that, while has returned a positive result, he has not yet developed any symptoms and “feels 100%”.

“Hey ….sincere thanks for all the messages…I really appreciate it,” he wrote on Twitter last night. “It’s actually a bizarre feeling to have tested positive to this thing we’ve all been talking about. I feel 100% …no symptoms at all ! Thanks again ….love to all RW.”

Many people have since wished Richard well on social media, one wrote: “Hopefully you continue to feel 100%! Stay well & see you soon back on the telly!”

Another person said: “So glad you’re feeling ok, Dickie! Get better soon!” While one person commented: “Great news you feel well despite testing positive. Hopefully your proactive and responsible approach in self-isolating has stopped further spread to someone else who could become critically unwell.”

Richard came into contact with Rita after her performance at the Sydney Opera House’s last week, before the actress-turned-singer returned a positive result.

Hanks, 63, broke the news on Thursday, revealing that he and Rita were tested after beginning to feel like they had a cold, as well as suffering muscle aches, fatigue and chills. They returned positive results and are now in isolation in hospital on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia,” Tom wrote on Instagram. “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”

He added: “Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”
