This year’s Met Gala saw the red carpet adorned with dark florals, delicate metallics, and roses, gracing celebrities such as Australia’s Nicole Kidman and the iconic Demi Moore. The theme this year was Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion and celebrities were given a surprisingly cerebral dress code: The Garden of Time.
With this in mind, we saw a vast range of looks from period pieces to techno-inspired fashion. Have a look at some of the celebrities nearest and dearest to our hearts and what they brought to the red carpet!
Stunning in a black-and-white piece by Balenciaga, Nicole Kidman presented a sharp and clean silhouette with a touch of minimalism that contrasted the extravagant venue of this year’s Met.
The Wolverine star arrived in a classic black suit-and-tie—a timeless look that has lasted since the 20th century. Though nothing to baulk at, Jackman managed to still deliver an air of classiness, not unlike the Bonds of the old days.
True extravagance was found in Demi Moore’s look for this year’s Met—an avant-garde silhouette with exaggerated hips that is sure to be followed by the word ‘iconic’ for years to come.
After experiencing a record-smashing resurgence last year with Padam Padam, Australian singer and actress Kylie Minogue opted for a futuristic take on reimagining fashion in this year’s Met. Her look shone through in more ways than one and all we can say is we can’t get her out of our heads.
Meg Ryan walked the red carpet with an all-black look, elevated to new heights with a pooling train at her feet and a blend of textures and fabrics that gave her layered silhouette depth and shape. We’ll have what she’s having.
The legendary Vera Wang tops off our list with a dramatic mermaid gown composed of a glittering nude illusion bodysuit and a wealth of dark tulle below her knees. Beneath the shadowy layers of fabric hides a stormy blue that pokes out between tendrils of black.
