Easy layering style for spring – now and then…

Well, word is out we’re not having official spring yet, especially here in Melbourne, but we will not lose our joie de vivre over a little detail like that, right, divas? This was our introduction a year ago and it seems like déjà vu…

Mother Nature has her own agenda, and we will simply keep some of the winter woollens close, and mix it up with a little silk, cotton, linen, or whatever we prefer as our first layer, before adding scarves, toppers, wraps, or even coats to the mix.

Not sure how to start the process of layering? Eek, then there are those tricky colour mixes many of us are still coming to grips with as we wore neutrals, black, or monotone blends for so long.

We now have some bright, joyful, pretty colours to play with, expressing our femininity whenever we fancy! So pleased I kept my jewel hues from some years ago as they are enjoying a revival.

Again, this is what we published last year. However, black and white, and other neutrals, never go out of style, and when we feel the need to refresh the look, simply add a scarf and other accessories to brighten the mood.

Colours that are big for spring going into summer for 2024 include yellow, green, and red. However, any colour, bright or pastel, we have a penchant for and which we know enhances our individual complexion, will do. We look at fashion, decide what suits us, and we create our own individual style, adding some new pieces to our faithful favourites for a new lease on life.

Whatever the weather, we control our mood, and pretty florals, and eye-catching colours, will enhance our personal style.

Why wait for spring temperatures to feel rejuvenated? Be the spring, I say, so, without further ado, here’s some ideas to put a glow in our cheeks and a jolly skip in our step whilst keeping our backs warm during the peculiar rhythms of a new season in progress until the swallows have settled for the warmer months. I bet they get confused too, chuckles…

Mixing colours of the same family creates a joyful and fun winter-to-spring palette, even if the temperatures stay cool. Think nature. All the shades of the ocean, from azure to indigo. Then we have all the shades of green we might see in a forest, from soft sage hues to vibrant island emerald greens. Blending our most adored shades gets us into a creative mood, which I believe is fashion therapy of the highest order.

Now pick a wrap scarf, or a light poncho, cardigan, or coat, depending on the weather, and our warming top layer, if required, is sorted. Planning our outfits ahead of time saves so much energy which could be spent elsewhere, such as sipping champagne or indulging in a delicious cocktail in celebration of the season of rebirth with our besties.

Initially, it might take time to play around with what we already have in our closet, and perhaps succumbing to the fabulous items currently on offer could result in an additional style investment for years to come. Pick anything new with care and mindful of what it would complement in your existing wardrobe. Remorse purchases are taboo, we’ve all been there, ouch.

I do find most restaurants and venues are often heated on cooler days, so, when the top layers come off, we are left sitting and feeling pretty in the new season’s basic outfit.

Have fun and even if spring is a tad slow in showing her pretty face, I intend putting a spring in my step, celebrating being a woman for all seasons. We’ve got this, goddesses! I said this a year ago, and it remains my mantra, so, repeat after me: “I am woman, I feel fabulous, I know stuff.” Happy spring!
