British actor Geoffrey Bayldon, who also appeared in Worzel Gummidge as well as many movies, has been confirmed by his agency to have died on May 10.
According to The Independent he is reported to have died peacefully at home after suffering from respiratory problems.
Bayldon’s movies included To Sir With Love, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Casino Royale , Porridge and Steptoe and Son.
He famously turned down the lead role in Doctor Who, not once but twice, not wanting to be typecast as an eccentric old man, but did eventually make an appearance on the show in 1979.

Bayldon had retired from acting, his most recent role being in My Family in 2010.
The Guardian reported that Bayldon attended the annual gathering of the Catweazle fanclub, and in 2005 revealed that he had finally been able to watch the show with a sense of detachment. “I turned it on and I was sitting back watching myself without being conscious at all that it was me,” he said. ‘“And I was jaw-dropped. I suddenly thought: ‘This fella’s bloody good.’”
