Happy 60th Birthday to the philanthropic, passionate and inspiring American television personality, Oprah Winfrey.

Today she celebrates her 60th Birthday having accomplished a lot in 60 years. Oprah was born into an under-privileged single parent home in Mississippi and suffered from bullying throughout her school years. After struggling against sexual abuse from extended family, Oprah ran away from home at the age of 13 and dealt with the death of a newborn son at 14.

After finishing high school, Oprah studied media at university and graduated with a job on the six o’clock news for a local Baltimore news station. From there, her career in hosting took off and she eventually gained traction as one of America’s leading talk-show hosts and eventually as an international broadcaster.

Oprah has allowed her upbringing to inspire her in helping others, she is one of the top 50 most charitable Americans and has given away over $400 million of her own funds to charities and not-for-profit organisations all over the world.
