The official trailer for Being the Ricardos has arrived, giving fans a glimpse of Nicole Kidman’s transformation into the iconic entertainer Lucille Ball.
Fans were given their first brief glimpse of the Aussie actress as the iconic Ball in a teaser trailer released in October for the upcoming biopic, which film explores the relationship of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez during a week of production on the I Love Lucy Show.
The latest trailer provides much more footage for fans including some of Ball’s most iconic television moments, such as the classic grape-stomping scene, as well as an accurate delivery of Arnez’s classic line, “Lucy, I’m home!” by Javier Bardem.
The film also explores some of the darker elements of the couple’s life including marriage troubles and racial barriers the two contended with. Kidman has previously stated, to Variety, that the film is not a remake of the comedic series but a dramatic exploration of the behind-the-scenes relationship of the two leading stars.
“Everyone thinks we’re remaking the I Love Lucy show, and it’s so not that. It’s about Lucy and Desi and their relationship and their marriage. It’s very deep, actually,” she said.
“She was a trailblazer. She formed her production company. Desi was Cuban, and she had to fight to get him on the show. They had just so many things in their marriage that are so relevant today, and what she was also dealing with in terms of everything that artists deal with.”
Kidman took to Instagram to share the new trailer with her fans.
