It’s been a bad year for Simon Cowell when it comes to his health. In July he missed several X Factor auditions after being struck down by a mystery illness.

Then on Friday the 58-year-old was rushed to hospital after falling down stairs at his London home. He was stretchered out in a neck brace around 8.30am local time.

After undergoing tests he was home a few hours later giving photographers a thumbs up, and he told The Sun he had fainted.

He’s now missed his first live show for X Factor 2017.

Presenter Dermot O’Leary explained the situation to audience: “You might have spotted one judge is missing,” Dermot O’Leary said.

“That’s because Simon was taken to hospital yesterday. But he’s doing fine. He’s back home now watching the show – or possibly Autumnwatch – who knows? He loves a badger. But we do want to say get well soon boss and hope to see you fighting fit very soon.”

There were some jokes from O’Leary that the fall may have been caused by fellow judges.

“Oh you’re loving it you three! So, fess up, the question the whole country wants an answer to: Who put the banana skin at the top of the stairs? It’s like murder on the Orient Express. You all had your motives!”

The Sun is now reporting doctors are baffled by what caused him to faint, and have told him to rest until next week, and said the lights and heat in the studio may trigger a relapse.

Have you ever had a scary fall like this?
