‘In my kitchen sink!’ Shock as brown snake found hiding under plughole

While those in Queensland have become somewhat accustomed to seeing snakes around their properties in recent months, an Adelaide resident got a nasty shock when they discovered a highly dangerous brown snake seeking refuge in their kitchen’s sink pipes.

Snake Catchers Adelaide was called out to the Coromandel Valley property in the city’s south east after the reptile was spotted popping its head out.

In a video shared on the company’s Facebook page, the slippery creature can be seen slithering out slightly into the sink before retreating quickly back into the pipe while the snake catcher tries to coax it out by tapping on the pipes.

“‘I have a snake in my kitchen sink’… A call from Coromandel Valley yesterday morning, an interesting situation to say the least,” the post read. “It must have come up through the breather of the septic system possibly.”

Unfortunately the snake appears to be far too comfortable in its new home, staying firmly inside the pipe and making the situation much more difficult for the snake catcher.

After many failed attempts to lure the creature out, the catcher is forced to remove the entire grid. In a second video posted on the company’s Facebook page, he can then be seen carefully carrying the pipe outside.

“Removal of the brown snake in kitchen sink as it wouldn’t come out of its own accord once the sink grid was removed,” the post read.

The snake catcher then proceeds to use a hook to try and lure the reptile out which has curled itself tightly into a small area. After unscrewing parts of the pipe the creature is finally removed and carefully placed in a bag out of harms way.

The posts have since been viewed thousands of times with hundreds of people commenting about how frightening it would be to find a snake hiding in the home. However, others found the funny side of things and joked it was a good way of avoiding cleaning.

“Well that’s one way of getting out of doing the dishes,” one person commented.

Another joked: “Rather it come up through the sink than sitting on the toilet and one coming up between your legs.”

While a third claimed they had been in a similar situation in the past: “Over 20 years ago, living on acreage south west of Brisbane, we had this happen twice, but it was the bathtub – they were both brown snakes”.

Snakes have certainly been out and about lately, with one woman receiving the fright of her life last month during a quick run to the toilet. In a rush to the bathroom, the Brisbane resident sat down on the toilet without bothering to turn the light on.

However, she was left wishing she had peeked inside the bowl beforehand when she felt something bite her on the bottom. It turns out a carpet python had made her toilet its temporary home.

Taking to social media following the terrifying event, a local snake catcher shared the surprising story and embarrassment the woman was feeling following the strange turn of events.

“On Tuesday afternoon we got a call from a customer in Chapel Hill, who was admittedly quite embarrassed about needing to have the following discussion,” Snake Catchers Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and Gold Coast wrote on Facebook.

“She went on to explain how she went into the bathroom to go to the toilet, but did not turn the light on. ‘mid-stream’, she felt something bite her bottom! As you can imagine, she jumped up quite quickly.”
