Amazing news! A ‘McLeod’s Daughters’ movie is in the works

It’s been 11 years since the beloved Australian drama left our screens, but McLeod’s Daughters is set to make a triumphant return. The show’s writer and producer Posie Graeme-Evans announced on Wednesday night that a drama spin-off of McLeod’s Daughters is well and truly in the works thanks to a government grant.

Taking to Instagram, Graeme-Evans confirmed a feature film named The McLeods of Drovers Run is set for production. “THE STORY CONTINUES,” she wrote. “Yes — it really does. And I’m letting you know first.

“We’re developing a feature film. It’s called The McLeods of Drovers Run and I started writing the story a couple of months ago.

“Today we heard that we’ve got backing from Screen Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government to write the very first stage of the movie.”

“And I promise, as we develop the story with the very talented screenwriter Emma Jensen (“Mary Shelley” and the upcoming release, “I am Woman” – the Helen Reddy story) that I’ll keep you with us every step of the way.”

Graeme-Evans continued: “We’re just at the beginning, the very beginning, but we’re on our way. No promises but I have such a good feeling about this. Hope I’m right.”

Many excited fans were quick to comment on the announcement, with one writing: “This is the best news ever.” Another added: “This is so exciting.”

While a third asked whether any of the original cast members will be making a return, to which Graeme-Evans replied with: “I hope so!”

“This is amazing news I’m so excited!” the fan wrote. “Does this mean some of the original cast will be back?” Meanwhile, another added: “Awesome Posie! So exciting! So proud of your achievements and I look forward to another adventure ahead!”

McLeod’s Daughters made its debut in August 2001 and ran for an impressive eight seasons. The series starred Lisa Chappel (Claire McLeod), Bridie Carter (Tess Silverman McLeod), Sonia Todd (Meg Fountain), Jessica Napier (Becky Howard), Rachael Carpani (Jodi Fountain), Aaron Jeffery (Alex Ryan) and Myles Pollard (Nick Ryan) in leading roles.
