With the weather rapidly cooling down, how do you like to stay warm and cosy in bed? Do you resort to a hot water bottle or heat pack to warm the sheets? Or do you opt for some layering?

One convenient way to stay snug this winter is with an electric blanket. They’ve come a long way since they were first invented and they’re definitely not all made the same.

However, with so many different types and models available on the market, selecting the right electric blanket can be a daunting task.

Here are three things you should look for in an electric blanket to keep you safe and warm this winter.

Safety first

Being an electric appliance, safety should be the top priority when purchasing an electric blanket.

As the majority of electric blanket owners use the blanket while sleeping, be sure to look out for a blanket that includes safety and overheat protection features.

Find a blanket that allows you to set a timer that will automatically turn the blanket off after a period of time. Similarly, ensure your electric blanket has the ability to detect if it’s getting too hot, to automatically switch off regardless of the set timer.

Like many things in life, consider the quality of the electric blanket that you buy. By choosing a high-quality blanket, you can ensure maximum comfort and durability, as well as reduce the risk of safety hazards.

Dual control

When it comes to sharing a bed with a significant other, finding the right temperature can be a challenge. Oftentimes, the story goes that one person likes it freezing cold, and the other sweltering hot!

Instead of choosing two separate electric blankets, look for one that offers dual control settings for the optimum comfort of both partners.

Dual controls allow each partner to adjust the temperature of their side of the bed to their preferred setting, without affecting the other person’s side.

Another great tip is to look for an electric blanket that has an LED screen on the control, to make it easier for those late-night temperature adjustments.

Comfort and maintenance

With an electric blanket, it’s the little things that count.

If it’s for your bed, consider looking for one that comes fitted to your bed’s size, and ensure the quality of the lining and material for your comfort. Materials such as fleece, flannel or sherpa will not only help to enhance your warmth and provide you with ultimate levels of cosiness but will also provide durability.

Another great feature to look for in an electric blanket is removable wires. This allows you to put your blanket through a machine wash, keeping it fresh and clean for your use.

With these key factors in mind, you’ll be sure to stay warm and cosy throughout the chilly season.
