Queen Letizia showers terror victims with motherly affection
The Spanish royals, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, have visited with some of the victims of the Barcelona terror attack, which took place on Thursday, August 17.
The king and queen attended the Mar de Barcelona hospital, spending time with some of the 130 people injured by the van that deliberately targeted pedestrians on the busy Las Ramblas boulevard.
The royals were a welcome sight for the patients, who happily shook hands with King Felipe.

But it was the sweet and glamorous Queen Letizia who was stealing hearts left, right and centre. Dressed in a simple black and white blouse and black trousers, with her hair pulled back in a casual ponytail, the Queen made quite an impression on those she visited, especially the children.
Crouching down to speak to them, shaking hands, and touching their shoulders, the fleeting moments of motherly affection were greatly appreciated by everyone who received them.
Letizia seemed to bond especially with a young girl in a wheelchair, who also had her arm in a sling. Careful not to disturb the young girl’s injuries, Letizia pressed her forehead to the girl’s in a comforting gesture.

Queen Elizabeth has also shared a message of support.
“Prince Philip and I send our sincere condolences to Your Majesty, and the people of Spain, following the terrible terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils which killed and seriously injured many.”
Felipe and Letizia recently visited the UK and stayed at Buckingham Palace.
