Big names have made a bigger impression this year.

This year has seen glitz and glamour both on an off the red carpet – and some stars in particular have shone out from the crowd.

From new Royals, to veteran TV and movie stars, there have been some classic and very daring looks as the famous faces wow fans.

But which was your favourite?

Susan Sarandon takes the plunge at Cannes

At 70, Susan Sarandon is showing no signs of slowing down or dressing down for that matter, as she turned heads on the 2017 Cannes Film Festival red carpet in a glamorous low-cut and revealing dark green velvet dress.

With her hair looking effortlessly glam as always, and her makeup understated, Sarandon added a touch of bling to her red carpet look with a pair of diamond and sapphire drop earrings.

Completing the outfit with sunglasses, making her look nonchalant and as cool as ever, Sarandon held her own in her figure-hugging dress with it’s off-the-shoulder sleeves and daring slit and, dare we say, even outshone the beautiful young models she rubbed shoulders with at the notoriously glam event.

Meghan Markle puts a new spin on Royal style

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently shared three stunning and intimate photos to mark their engagement – and Meghan’s dress caused a huge stir on social media.

A black and white portrait of the couple shows Meghan looking off into the distance while clinging on to her prince’s arm, showing off the black and gold ruffled number.

The photos were shot by celebrity photographer Alexi Lubomirski – who has previously worked with photographer Mario Testino, a favourite of Prince William and Princess Diana – and show the couple in both formal and more relaxed poses.

Meghan’s engagement shoot dress was designed by Ralph & Russo, from the designer’s fall 2017 couture collection, and it’s reported to cost around $96,000.

Celine Dion steals the show in starburst dress

When it comes to outrageous style, you can always rely on Celine Dion.

And while she made headlines earlier this year in a steady stream of weird and wonderful coloured outfits at Paris Fashion Week, it was her gown in her promotional shot for her new Las Vegas residency that really stood out.

Why fit in when you were born to stand out?

Dion was a vision of elegance in a sparkling floor-length dress that featured strategic cutouts around the chest and plenty of diamontes. 

Attached to the gown was a sheer shimmery cape, which added a dramatic flare to the ensemble.

Lisa Wilkinson stuns in red

Lisa Wilkinson knows her colour and she’s not afraid to flaunt a little bit of skin on the red carpet.

The journalist and TV personality mingled with Hollywood stars at the inaugural Fred Hollows gala dinner in Los Angeles earlier this year.

The star strutted and took to the stage in a stunning red Capellazzo gown that showed off her glowing complexion.

Serena Williams wows on her wedding day

We’re used to seeing her dominate the tennis court but Serena Williams was every inch the princess at her dream wedding just a month ago.

The 36-year-old married her long-time partner Alexis Ohania in a lavish ceremony in the US city of New Orleans.

Williams could be seen wearing an astonishing dress, and the white gown appeared to be a stunning floor-length number.

It didn’t have any sleeves and showed off the tennis pro’s toned arms.

Melania Trump steals her husband’s thunder at inauguration

If there’s a first lady who’ll go down in history as the most glamorous of them all, it looks set to be Melania Trump.

Ensuring all eyes were on her at the inauguration ball, Melania wore a stunning figure-hugging vanilla off-the-shoulder gown by French-born designer Hervé Pierre, revealing her incredible figure.

She has since donated the dress back to Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.

Nicole Kidman dazzles in red at Emmys

Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban put on a loved-up display at the 69th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, but all eyes were on the actress.

The Aussie actress stunned on the red carpet in a Calvin Klein by Appointment crimson pleated A-line dress featuring a pleated bodice and a sparkling silver halter neckline.

She paired her gorgeous gown with pink strappy heels and diamond earrings.

The Duchess of Cambridge shines out in glittering ball gown

She may not be Queen, but when it comes to pregnancy style, Catherine rules them all.

The Duchess of Cambridge put on a show-stopping display as she stepped out with Prince William at the Royal Variety Performance, shimmering through London’s Palladium Theatre in a glittering blue ballgown.

The soon-to-be mother-of-three was the picture of royal elegance in her Jenny Packham gown.

She paired the extravagant dress with sparkly heels and drop earrings.

Michelle Pfeiffer looks sensational in gold

She may be 59 years old, but Michelle Pfeiffer hasn’t lost any of the spunk and old-school Hollywood glamour that made her a star.

Pfeiffer walked the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year in a gorgeous gold-and-black dress complete with towering black heels high enough to send most people toppling.

Jerry Hall looks stunning in black lace

Jerry Hall showed she was still very much the supermodel of style stepping out at the English National Opera Spring Gala 2017.

She was joined by hubby Rupert Murdoch, with whom she recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary.

Showing off her figure, the 60-year-old Hall looked stunning in a fitted black lace gown accessorised with a matching clutch and lace edged wrap.

Judi Dench has a signature style she never fails to pull off, and this year she’s done it again – repeatedly.

The star looked effortlessly elegant at a screening of her new film Victoria & Abdul recently.

The 82-year-old film legend stood out in a casual but flattering light-green outfit and matching scarf, as she opted for her usual laid-back style at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations screening in Los Angeles. Adding a pair of chunky boots to a loose linen top and casual trousers, the actress looked relaxed and cool.
