While there are probably quite a few people nursing hangovers from drinking too much Guinness on Saint Patrick’s Day, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have brought some royal class to celebrations in the United Kingdom.
The couple, who are expecting their third child next month, braved the snowy weather and freezing temperatures to pay their respects to Irish Guards at a St Patrick’s Day parade.
Prince William is a Colonel of the Irish Guards and visited the 1st Battalion at their base in the London borough of Hounslow. The loved-up couple watched on as 350 soldiers marched in their traditional red regalia uniforms.
The Prince took the salute at the event, while Catherine presented a shamrock to Irish Wolfhound Domhnall, the Irish Guards’ mascot. In photos posted to Twitter, Catherine could be seen smiling and patting the happy dog.
The couple then handed out shamrocks to the many officers and guardsmen in attendance. Despite the plummeting temperatures, both were happy to chat and interact with everyone who showed up to the event.

Getting into the Irish spirit, 36-year-old Catherine wore a stunning green coat by Catherine Walker. Teamed with black gloves and stockings, the mother-of-two completed the look with an adorable green headpiece.

Meanwhile, her husband wore his traditional black Colonel uniform and was even spotted indulging in a pint of Guinness later at the event. While their baby is due at the end of April, both Catherine and Prince William have shown no signs of slowing down.
Kensington Palace confirmed that the pair would be celebrating the Commonwealth at an event on Thursday. “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will undertake engagements celebrating the Commonwealth on 22 March,” a tweet read. “They will meet athletes supported by @TeamSportsAid, some of whom aim to compete in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and help to prepare a Commonwealth Big Lunch at @StLukesTrust.”

Catherine will also partake in a solo royal engagement on Wednesday about the wellbeing of children in the United Kingdom. “On Wednesday 21st March, The Duchess of Cambridge will convene a symposium on the importance of early intervention to provide solid social and emotional platforms for children in their early years, helping them to become healthier and more resilient later in life,” the palace confirmed.
