Man caves have been all the rage for years and have provided men with a special location where they can relax, knock back a few beers and even spend some quality time with their mates.

Typically set up in a garage, spare bedroom or basement, the man cave is the ultimate place for blokes to be blokes and participate in activities that wouldn’t generally tickle the fancy of a woman. Starts at 60 even has an online man cave on Facebook for the men in our wonderful community.

While many think it’s unfair that blokes are the only ones who get to enjoy their own personal retreat, female celebrities such as Catherine Zeta-Jones are leading the way with their own take on the man cave. Known as girl caves or she sheds, these special places give women their own space in the home – especially when they need a moment away from their husbands, children or grandkids.

Taking to her personal Instagram page, Catherine gave fans a special look inside her very own space.

“One of my favourite places to be. My girl cave,” she wrote.

Although she’s a famous actress and regularly fronts blockbuster movies, the 48-year-old is also a designer and is working hard on her new range of luxurious bedding sets, bath towels, table linen and rugs. For Catherine, the girl cave is the ultimate place for her to work on her hobby without being interrupted.

As such, her cave is full of clothes, a sewing machine, drawing boards and a mannequin. She’s also decked it out with flowers and furniture to put her own touch on her personal space.

Of course, it’s entirely up to the individual how they want to decorate and personalise the space and what they use it for. Some choose to work on hobbies such as arts and craft or designing, while others use the area to host their friends for afternoon tea or to delve into a good book without interruptions.
