The Queen has taken some time away from the spotlight of late due to the coronavirus crisis, but this week marked a special celebration for Her Majesty with the anniversary of her coronation.

On June 2, the royal family celebrated 67 years since Queen Elizabeth II took to the throne, following the tragic death of her father King George VI. She was just 25 years old at the time, but quickly took to the role and gained the love and following of those in the United Kingdom, and around the world.

To mark the momentous anniversary, the royal family shared a throwback photo of the Queen from that very day in 1953 – and didn’t she look beautiful. Queen Elizabeth wore a stunning white gown for the coronation, posing with the historic crown upon her head.

“Today marks the 67th anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II,” the Instagram post read. “Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on 2 June, 1953 in Westminster Abbey. Her Majesty was the 39th Sovereign to be crowned at Westminster Abbey, the setting for the Coronation since 1066. Whilst an occasion for celebration, the Queen’s Coronation was a solemn, religious ceremony that lasted almost three hours. The service has remained essentially the same for over 1,000 years.”

During the ceremony, Queen Elizabeth II had to follow a set schedule of events before she was officially given the title of Queen. She took an oath, was anointed with holy oil, invested with robes and regalia and finally crowned the Queen. It was an important celebration for all, and millions of people across Britain tuned in to watch the coronation live on the BBC television service. As television was quite new back then, many had to purchase or rent TVs to view the ceremony.

Since then, the Queen’s popularity has only grown, with dedicated royal fans following her journey every step of the way. They watched on eagerly as she became a mother to her children Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, and then a grandmother, and now great-grandmother.

They celebrated her achievements and commitment to helping others through her various royal duties and commended her for always remaining respectful to others. And on the anniversary of the Queen’s coronation on Tuesday, they took to social media to send their love and best wishes to Her Majesty.

“You have led from the front for 67 years with dignity and compassion,” @rhodanielson wrote on Instagram. “I salute you ma’am.” While @jeanettematthew4 posted: “I’m proud of what you have accomplished. I admire you and your family.” And @patriciamcleaninteriorsinc added: “Longer still may she reign!”
