Karl Stefanovic’s son breaks silence over wedding drama

It’s been one of the most talked about weddings this year and Karl Stefanovic’s son Jackson has broken his silence over what really happened in Mexico when his father married Jasmine Yarbrough earlier this year.

The 19-year-old and his siblings Ava, 13, and river, 12, were dragged into the feud between Karl and his ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn when she claimed her children never actually attended their father’s wedding ceremony.

In an interview with New Idea magazine, 47-year-old Cassandra said her kids didn’t attend the ceremony. It came after 19-year-old Jackson was spotted walking alongside his father as they arrived in Mexico.

“They were told they never had to go… My 19-year-old [Jackson] has assured me they did not attend,” she told the publication.

She also claimed Karl set two weeks aside as a family holiday, before timing his wedding at the same time so his children would be there.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, Jackson backed up his mother’s claims and said he didn’t go to the ceremony, but did say he congratulated his father and new bride after everyone had left the chapel.

“My brother and sister didn’t want to go, and I was not going to leave them on their own so I looked after them,” he told the publication.

Jackson also said that his younger siblings may not have understood that their father remarrying was a part of moving on.

It was also previously reported that Jackson and his girlfriend Anna attended the wedding reception for a short amount of time but that they’d been kicked out because they were drunk. Jackson denied the claims.

“We left because it was sh**,” he told the Daily Mail.

He added that he spent most of his time in Mexico with his partner and that he didn’t spend his time worrying about the wedding. He also spoke positively of his new stepmother, labelling her as “nice”.

Karl and Jasmine tied the knot in the Mexican resort of San Jose del Cabo earlier this month before partying the night away with around 200 wedding guests following the ceremony at the lavish One&Only Palmilla Resort chapel.

It was a star-studded event, with an array of Channel 9 stars including Richard Wilkins and Sylvia Jeffreys in attendance, as well as former Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and his brother Peter.

Jackson’s comments come after Cassandra was quoted as calling her ex a “narcissist” and “fake” by the magazine last week, allegedly in the same interview.

She later appeared on Studio 10 to deny ever making the remarks and insisting it was never an “interview”.
