The Queen makes a fashion statement in vibrant floral ensemble

Queen Elizabeth appeared at the polo in a vibrant spring ensemble.

While the rest of the United Kingdom enjoyed their Father’s Day celebrations, Queen Elizabeth was in Windsor, celebrating the Cartier Queen’s Cup Polo final.

The Queen’s bring spring outfit put her in full bloom as she was accompanied to the event by her husband, Prince Philip. It was announced earlier this year that 96-year-old Philip would retire from public engagements, but he has a few months of engagements left on his calendar and nothing could keep the royal away from this prestigious polo match.

Philip competed in the tournament twice, though his last engagement was more than 50 years ago. First established in 1960 and named after Queen Elizabeth, the Cartier Queen’s Cup is one of the world’s top five polo tournaments; it has been described as the “jewel in the polo calendar” by Country Life.

The Queen’s bright floral outfit and matching hat set the tone for the event. A who’s who of celebrities and British aristocracy adopted similar pink and floral hues, though none looked as vibrant as the Queen.

Lady Kitty Spencer (niece to Diana, the Princess of Wales) and Viscountess Emma Weymouth opted to channel relaxed elegance with their own outfits.

Never far from her pearl accessories, the Queen sported one of her trademark three-strand pearl necklaces and matching pearl earrings.

The Queen’s make-up was minimal, but a shade of bright pink lipstick brought out the highlights of her floral dress.  A silver brooch, white gloves and a pastel pink hat finished off the ensemble.

All eyes were on the polo fashion, but Queen Elizabeth looked her happiest during the award ceremony.

With a broad smile, the Queen shook hands with the players and presented the prestigious silver cup – a tradition since the tournament’s inception 57 years ago.
