James Hewitt finally addresses question about Prince Harry

The two men were close to Diana until her death.

Two of Princess Diana’s closest confidants have revealed some startling details about her life in a rare interview nearly 20 years after her death.

Diana’s former lover James Hewitt and former butler Paul Burrell answered some contentious questions about the late princess, with Hewitt finally addressing rumours he is Prince Harry’s real father.

When asked outright by Sunday Night about Harry’s paternity, Hewitt responded with a simple, “No, I’m not”.

He said he felt bad for Harry that people were still bringing it up as a possibility.

“It sells papers,” he said. “It’s worse for him (Harry) probably, poor chap.”

He said that he and Diana had enjoyed their time together cooking and going for long walks, mostly at his farm in Southwest England where they could have privacy.

“Well, I’d cook and she’d wash up. Just dinner and relaxing and laughing,” he said.

Hewitt was an officer in the British army at the time of the affair; a time when rumours were also circulating about Prince Charles’ relationship with Camilla.

They ended their relationship for good after it was exposed in the media, but said he still recalled the falling in love with her.

“Well, yes. It’s a gradual period and then, you know, suddenly you can’t get enough of each other or see each other as much as you want,” he said.

Sunday Night also interviewed Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell who read out a letter he received from her just months before her death in which she appeared to predict her own death.

“This particular phase in my life is the most dangerous,” the letter reads. “My husband is planning ‘an accident’ in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for him to marry Camilla.”

What are your thoughts on the letter Diana wrote to Burrell? What did you think of Hewitt’s revelations about his time with Diana?
