Why you should never drink coffee on a flight

Jun 05, 2017

Whether you see flights as the perfect opportunity to relax and watch movies, or a necessary evil to get to your favourite travel destination, there are some things you should and shouldn’t do while aboard. A couple of former flight attendants have shared their secrets about flying, adding that they would never, ever, drink the tea or coffee while on board.

A flight attendant who recently quit her job from one of the United States’ major airlines, took to forum website Reddit using the name adrianne456 to share her thoughts about what passengers should and shouldn’t do during a flight, and one of them was about the hot drinks served on board.

“I personally would not drink the potable water from the aircraft. So the tea, coffee … I would avoid,” the former flight attendant said. “The water isn’t so bad but how often do you really think those tanks are cleaned?”

Almost never, addrianne456 suggests, and she’s not the only one. Another flight attendant, who worked for another American airline said the same thing.

“The coffee is absolutely disgusting because no one washes the container that goes out every morning,” the crew member said.

“The station agents who get paid way too little don’t give a s*** about cleaning it. I certainly didn’t when I worked for AA.

“Also, because we weren’t given the proper supplies to clean it we pretty much just rinsed it out and dumped coffee into it.”

So, the next time you feel like a hot cup of coffee, you might want to skip the inflight cuppa, and wait until you land to get a fresh cup.
