Georgie Gardner was right on the money when it comes to fashion – the floral dress she wore for Channel Nine’s coverage of the royal wedding was perfectly in line with the current fad for busy, flowery patterns and ladylike dresses.
So the Today host wasn’t taking criticism of her ensemble laying down. Blasted by plenty of people on social media for wearing a dress – which was by the Aussie designers Scanlan and Theodore – that looked like a pair of old curtains or a ‘floral vomit’, Gardner admitted in an Instagram post on Sunday that she’d never worn a dress that’d attracted more conjecture.
I say this with a lot of love and respect for the gorgeous and talented #georgiegardner but her stylist for #TheRoyalWedding2018 needs to be sacked!!! It’s horrendous! Looks like a bunch of daisies threw up all over her!! pic.twitter.com/QiFGnSlhqL

But Gardner said straight out that she picked it, not a stylist or one of the broadcaster’s wardrobe pros. “For those I have offended, I’m sorry it’s not to your liking, but at the end of the day it’s not my day, the day belongs to the magnificent Meghan,” Gardner wrote in her Instagram post.
On Saturday, she’d posted a snap of herself and Today co-star Karl Stefanovic gearing up for their commentary of royal wedding, which took place on a beautifully clear day in Windsor, England.

TV Tonight reported on Monday that Channel 7 romped home in the royal wedding ratings battle, with 1.95 million viewers tuning in to see Melissa Doyle, Michael Usher and veteran British royal expert Angela Rippon commentating on Prince Harry’s big day. This compared to an audience of 1.47 million for Karl and Georgie, while TV Tonight said the ABC’s Annabel Crabb and Jeremy Fernandez pulled in 506,000 viewers. Channel 10 stuck to its normal schedule, without any ‘royal specials’.
Karl and Georgie had flown to the UK to cover the wedding but Channel 9’s coverage took some stick for having too many ads running during the programming.
That didn’t appear to have got the Today hosts down, though, with Georgie posting an image on Sunday of the pair about to leave London, saying that they’d “had a blast!”.
