A Baby Boomer has gone on a spectacular rant, blaming his generation for the current state of the world and for the political position the United States currently finds itself in.

Lucian K. Truscott IV, 71, wrote in a scathing article for Salon, that Donald Trump, along with former presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush and even vice president Dick Cheney lied to the public and that Baby Boomers are responsible for putting the men in power.

He said he was “ashamed” of his generation and asked what Boomers were thinking in letting a person like Trump run America. Truscott recalled living in New York during the 1970s and ’80s when Trump was a tabloid favourite and wrote that no one batted and eye when he “invented” his fortune and acted up in nightclubs and hotspots. In fact, he recalled Trump acting like many other Baby Boomers at the time, misbehaving and indulging in all the glitzy glamour New York had to offer.

He said Trump acted like he owned the world back then and that other Boomers did as well – a problem the world is still dealing with decades later. Just as Trump was making a name for himself, other Boomers were dominating the film, journalism, political and finance industries. As much as people complain about Trump now, Truscott said Baby Boomers are the ones who catapulted him to stardom and power.

“We sat by and laughed while he piggy-backed on the Baby Boomer scam that what really mattered was graduating from The Right School, having your name on The List at the Door, getting The Best Table at the Hottest Restaurant, living at The Right Address, and finally, having the Coolest Guy as our president. For Boomers, life has been high school forever,” he wrote.

He said that Boomers watched on for decades as Trump relished “telling his lies” and “flaunting his fakery” to the world, but simply didn’t take him seriously.

“He was one of us, and he was telling us exactly who he is, and we didn’t take him seriously. We didn’t do shit about him. I, for one, am ashamed,” he continued.

Truscott also implied Baby Boomers spent their lives putting to much emphasis on things like merit, achievement, elite education and expertise.

Truscott’s rant is one of the few examples where a Baby Boomer blames people within the same age group for the world’s problems. Author Simon Sinek went viral last year when he described Millennials as “entitled, narcissistic, self-interested, unfocused and lazy”, but blamed the way they were brought up by their parents for their behaviour.

What do you think? Are Baby Boomers to blame for how the world is today? Equally, if we take credit for the good things, should we also own up to the bad things?
