Craig McLachlan charged with assault and sex offences by police: Report

Police have charged Craig McLachlan with assault and sex offences, according to multiple reports.

The actor, 53, was previously accused of sexually harassing a number of women during a 2014 Australian production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show – claims he has always denied.

He was later accused of harassing women on the set of Doctor Blake, although an independent investigation cleared him of those allegations.

Victoria Police have now confirmed to Starts at 60 they have charged a 53-year-old NSW man with one count of common law assault, eight counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted indecent assault.

He has been ordered to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 8.

McLachlan has strenuously denied all of the allegations against him and previously launched his own legal suit against his accusers.

He spoke out last January against the allegations, and revealed at the time that he still had the support of his partner Vanessa Scammell, despite the allegations against his name.

“Does being cheeky and naughty equate with being a bully?” he said in an exclusive interview with Daily Telegraph at the time. “No, it does not. By God I will fight this and the truth, the truth will come out.”

McLachlan is perhaps best known for appearing in Neighbours and Home and Away as well as the BBC One spy drama Bugs. He went on to take the lead role in The Doctor Blake Mysteries, for which he was nominated for the Logie Award for Most Popular Actor.
