Camilla describes ‘horrid’ time after reuniting with Charles

The future queen has opened up.

The Duchess of Cornwall says she felt trapped and alone after rekindling her romance with Prince Charles, fearing public backlash and a difficult relationship with the British press.

Camilla opened up in a rare interview with The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine at the weekend and revealed just how difficult she found the spotlight considering the public’s deep distrust of her at the time.

Confessing she barely left the house for a year after she and Charles reconnected, she said passed the time by reading and learning to paint.

“I couldn’t really go anywhere,” she told the magazine.

“But the children came and went as normal – they just got on with it – and so did great friends.

“It was horrid. It was a deeply unpleasant time and I wouldn’t want to put my worst enemy through it.”

She went on to speak about the pressures of royal life and how her hectic schedule can leave her tired as she approaches her 70th birthday in July, but added she is a positive person and likes to carry on like a true Brit.

“Sometimes you get up in the morning and think you can’t do it, and you just have to,” she said.

“The minute you stop it’s like a balloon, you run out of puff – you sort of collapse in a heap. I think you live on adrenaline.

“If you are a positive person, you can do so much more. People are either glass-half-empty or glass-half-full. I always think hopefully. You just have to get on with it. Being British!”

While Camilla’s relationship with the public and the press has been difficult in the past, she is now a favourite on the royal scene and draws large crowds at official engagements.

She’s committed to a number of causes and is said to be well-regarded for her wit and ‘get on with it’ attitude.

The Duchess did not mention the late Princess Diana by name in the interview, but it’s no secret much of her past difficulty with the public and the media came from her involvement in the breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage.

However, she has spent the past 19 years working to build her relationship with Charles and his sons as well as dedicating her life to her royal duties since marrying the future king.

Is it time for everyone to accept Camilla and let go of the resentment towards her? What do you think?
