The weather may have cooled down in Australia, but that hasn’t stopped reptiles from going into hiding, in fact there’s plenty of Aussies who have spotted snakes lurking around their homes and workplaces during the winter months.

That’s exactly what happened to Queensland woman Angela Baranowskyj, who got a fright of her life when she entered her office kitchen to find a massive three-metre carpet python lying across the bench, Yahoo 7 reports. She said a colleague had arrived at work that morning to find a broken dish and knife on the ground – apparently the door had been left open overnight.

Thinking some kind of animal had gotten inside, Angela went to investigate, but she couldn’t find anything, so she went on with her day. Then seven hours later she heard smashing noises coming from the kitchen – the snake had returned.

“He must have been sleeping in one of the bottom cupboards, woke up and decided to check things out, went up the bench, weaved through the top cupboard, back down and across the bench,” Angela said according to Yahoo 7.

“He wasn’t aggressive, more scared and didn’t try strike at all; a bit of a hiss but mainly wanted off the cold benchtop without falling.”

Thankfully, Angela said they were able to remove the snake with a broom, a long pole and a garbage bin and last saw it taking a snooze in the afternoon sun.

Photos of the snake have since been shared across social media, showing the massive snake stretched across the benches in the kitchen. And there’s no denying, it certainly would have given anyone a fright!

The recent snake sighting comes weeks after a Brisbane homeowner found one of the slippery reptiles hiding in plain sight in their backyard. It led to an urgent warning to Aussies to take caution in their backyards this winter, with many snakes out and about despite the cooler weather.

Bryan Robinson from Snake Catchers Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and Gold Coast took to social media recently to share a snap of the snake, asking followers if they could see the reptile in the backyard  – and it certainly left some people stumped. “Spot the snake time!” the post on Facebook read. “Some suburban yards are just purpose built for snakes.”

You’d think you’d be able to see the snake easily, but with trees, branches and a pile of wood littering the backyard, it seemed the reptile had found the perfect hiding spot. Many people tried their best to spot the snake, with some people guessing it was up the trunk behind the pump, while other’s questioned whether there was more than one.

“A yard like that, I bet there’s a heap,” Vanessa Allen commented on the post.

But, on closer inspection, the snake was discovered. If you look closely at the pile of wood to the left of the yard, you’ll see the snake curled up enjoying some of the winter sun. The colour of its scales blend perfectly into the wood, so it’s no wonder some couldn’t see it!
