While most of the world has been captivated by Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex as they’ve wowed crowds in Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall is proving she’s just as glamorous.

The 71-year-old is currently in Gambia alongside husband Prince Charles, 69. While she’s appeared in a number of summery outfits perfect for the African heat, it was her sparkly floor-length gown at a special black-tie State Dinner earlier this week that really stole the show.

The royal wowed crowds with a kaftan-style gown, complete with an intricate embroidery pattern. It was the Duchess of Cornwall’s accessories that really made her outfit pop. In addition to a matching clutch person, Camilla wore a diamond pair of earrings by luxury brand Van Cleef & Arpels worth £38,500 (AU$69,412, US$49,915).

The evening was hosted by President Barrow of The Gambia. During the dinner, Prince Charles gave a passionate speech about how the Queen visited Gambia in 1961 and how important the visit was for him and his wife.

“I remember quite clearly The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh returning from their own visit to The Gambia in 1961, when I was just 13, and telling me how much they had enjoyed their time here,” he explained. “I remember seeing some of the photographs that my Father had somehow managed to take with his miniature Minox camera and thinking how marvellous it would be to visit myself one day.

“Little did I know that it would take me nearly 57 years to get here! Having enjoyed our visit as we have, all I can say, however, is that it has been well worth the wait!”

Charles said both he and Camilla had the pleasure of celebrating the strength of the ties between the two countries and have met many people who are making a profound difference to the partnership between the two nations.

It’s been a busy time for both Prince Charles and Camilla. Following their dinner, the pair arrived at Jubilee House in Accra the next day for an official welcome ceremony. Camilla wore white and protected herself against the African sun with an umbrella. Thousands of fans lined the streets of Accra to catch a glimpse of the royal couple.

On the first day of her visit, Camilla shone out in a knee-length turquoise tunic and white flared trousers to meet President Adama Barrow at the State House in The Gambia.
