Johanna Griggs has opened up about becoming a grandmother at just 44 years old, and revealed she’d happily welcome a newborn back into her own home, despite having two grown up sons of her own.

The Better Homes and Gardens host told Stellar she’s “ridiculously besotted” with her new grandson Jax, who is the first born of her son, Joe.

“We are just so in love with that little boy and cannot believe the joy he has brought,” she told the publication. “There is something so magical about having a little baby back in your lives and we are just ridiculously besotted.

“You don’t think you can find room for any more love and then your heart just explodes. Joe and his partner Katie are such competent, confident parents, but we keep telling them: anytime you want to go out, we’ve got the cot set up.”

Joe and his brother James are Johanna’s sons with her former husband, Gary Sweet.

Johanna broke the happy news of the birth to fans in March, saying Joe and his partner Katie were “completely calm and over the moon”.

Like many first-time grandparents, she was blown away at seeing her son with his own newborn, and added: “Can’t begin to to describe how incredible it is to see my baby holding his baby.”

She’s shared plenty of photos and videos of little Jax on her social media accounts since he was born, acting every bit the proud grandmother.

Johanna recently made headlines for her outspoken criticism of the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony in April. She was hosting Channel Seven’s broadcast of the event with Basil Zempilas, when she slammed the Games’ organisers for their decision not to show the Aussie athletes and flag bearers

“You want to see the athletes come in. You want to see them jumping in front of camera,” she said. “You want to see them celebrating 11 days of great sport. We missed out on all of that. There’s no athletes in here. I’ve never seen the stadium so empty halfway through a ceremony.”

“People are thinking that Channel Seven has chosen not to show pictures of athletes or not to show the flag-bearer Kurt Fearnley or other flag bearers,” Griggs said. “We can only show the pictures that are provided by the actual host broadcasters. They made decisions not to have athletes enter the stadium. They made the decision not to show the flag-bearers.”

She’s also hit out at gossip magazine Woman’s Day for printing a fabricated story about her and husband, Todd Huggins.

She posted a picture of the magazine cover to Instagram along with a long rant about the story, which claimed that she had saved her husband, Todd’s life with a “sixth sense” premonition about his health, which Griggs denied.

“I didn’t have a 6th sense about anything… nor did I save my husbands life,” she wrote. The doctors and medical staff who looked after him did.”

She went on to explain that the event involving Todd’s health had been far less dramatic than the article claimed.

“Todd wasn’t rushed off to hospital like you’ve made up in your fantasy world. In fact we booked in to see specialists and doctors and in to the hospital like thousands of other families do every year.”
