Meghan Markle’s fashion mistake at wedding

Megan Markle posted this photo on Instagram before heading home yesterday.

While all eyes were on the bridge when Pippa Middleton married James Matthews, all eyes were on the lookout for Meghan Markle at the reception. Especially as she was a no-show to the wedding.

It seems when they finally spotted her there were questions over whether she broke the rules of etiquette.

Most famous for being Prince Harry’s girlfriend, despite being a US actress in the television drama Suits, 35-year-old Markle attended the black-tie event in a long black dress with a white jacket. Traditionally it has been inappropriate to wear black or white to a wedding, unless you are the bride or groom of course. Some even consider it bad luck. But there are suggestions from royal watchers that because she only attended the reception, and not the wedding, that she will get away with the fashion faux pas.

When it comes to gallantry, though, Prince Harry is right on the mark. The Telegraph reported he drove 160km to collect Markle after the wedding ceremony, so they could attend the reception together. The pair were spotted smiling as they drove to the reception where up to 350 guests partied until the early hours of the morning at the Middleton family’s $8 million mansion in Bucklebury, west of London.

British media have reported Markle, pictured below in 2016, did not attend the wedding to avoid stealing the spotlight. So far the only photos of Prince Harry and Markle to surface from the event are the ones taken of them as they drove there.

The reception had tight security, with both armed police and royal protection officers patrolling the area. Guests were banned from using mobile phones at the event, to ensure privacy, and the airspace above the reception was also closed, to prevent press flying overhead.
