Remember the days of signing classroom yearbooks and filling autograph books with witty sayings?
Well, this might take you back to those days.
After signing a note at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial the message written by US President Donald Trump Israel has been relentlessly mocked on social media. The note has been compared to a note left in a high school yearbook, rather than one left at a memorial for the six million Jews killed by the Nazis. To make matters worse, it has been compared to the more thoughtful and considered note left by his predecessor, Barack Obama.
“IT IS A GREAT HONOR TO BE HERE WITH ALL OF MY FRIENDS – SO AMAZING AND WILL NEVER FORGET!” Trump wrote.
In 2008 Obama wrote this: “I am grateful to Yad Vashem and all those responsible for this remarkable institution. At a time of great peril and promise, war and strife, we are blessed to have such a powerful reminder of man’s potential for great evil, but also our capacity to rise up from tragedy and remake our world. Let our children come here, and know this history, so that they can add their voices to proclaim ‘never again’. And may we remember those who perished, not only as victims, but also as individuals who hoped and loved and dreamed like us, and who have become symbols of the human spirit.”
Comments on social media have said comments like ‘Trump would have written the exact same note at Disneyland as he did at Yad Vashem’ and ‘Maybe Trump got confused and thought he was TWEETING his note at Yad Vashem. He’s under 140 characters.’ Perhaps this sums it up perfectly. ‘Trump’s Yad Vashem note reads like an inscription in an 8th grade yearbook. Have a great summer-C U in HIGH SCHOOL!!!’

The viral note follows the viral video of Melania appearing to swipe away her husbands hand as they arrived in Tel Aviv.
