Regularly eating this food could help you live longer

If you like a hot curry then this news will be good for you — it can help you live longer.

New research has found that if you like spicy food, eating red chili peppers could extend your lifespan.

More than 16,000 people in the United States were involved in the study that found those who ate red chilies were less likely to die from all causes over an average of 18 years when compared to those people who did not eat the spicy stuff.

The findings were published in the journal PLOS One

Chili peppers can have various levels of heat, which is what many studies have suggested can offer a wealth of health benefits.

According to the study’s co-authors Mustafa Chopan and Benjamin Littenberg, there has only been one previous investigation to how eating chilies and other spicy foods can impact your risk of death.

Their study supports the findings that regular consumption of such foods and reduced all-cause and cause-specific mortality are linked.

The findings suggest that participants who consumed hot red chili peppers when compared to those who did not had a reduced risk of all-cause mortality of 13 per cent.

It suggests that the biggest benefit of eating chili peppers can reduce your risk of death from vascular diseases such as heart disease and stroke.
