Television personality Grant Denyer has updated fans on his condition, sharing a sweet photograph from his hospital bed as he thanked his “super hero” doctor for coming to his rescue for the second time in his life.

The Dancing with the Stars host suffered a serious injury to his spine whilst undertaking a home project last week, forcing the 41-year-old to spend the past week recovering in hospital after struggling to stand or walk.

Denyer was left with a bulging disk after an unfortunate accident with a sledgehammer which he had been using to knock in a star picket to hold up a plant in his backyard when things took a turn for the worse.

Taking to social media on Sunday, the former Family Feud host thanked those who have helped him through the challenging week, including his neurosurgeon who has been helping him to stand and walk without too much pain, 10 years after he first helped the star recover from a horrific monster truck accident.

“This is modern-day super hero Dr Richard Parkinson,” Grant explained in an Instagram post alongside a photo of himself with the doctor.

“The talented neurosurgeon who saved me when I broke my back in a monster truck accident 10 years ago, has come to the rescue again to get me back on my feet.”

The Channel Ten star went on to explain how much pain he has been in over the past few days and his hopes to get back home sometime soon.

“It’s been unbelievably painful 8 days since I tore my L1 disc swinging a mallet in my paddock,” he continued. “As those with injuries know, it’s a slow process but with the right care. I’ll be all good again. Lucky to have this man by [my] side to get me back on my feet.

“Thank you my friend. Step 1 = being able to stand. Step 2 = discharged from hospital.”

While Denyer was notably absent from social media immediately after the accident he took the time to update fans on his condition multiple times at the weekend.

The former weather presenter also shared a photo of his MRI scan on Instagram, which he joked looked a lot like Predator, the extraterrestrial creature from thriller The Predator.

“Um, how concerned should I be that the MRI of my spine looks just like Predator??” he queried. “Oh and yeah, that’s a needle going into my vertebrae, which is already enough to give me damn nightmares.”

The recent posts followed one from his wife Chezzi earlier in the week who claimed Grant was in “so much pain” from the accident.

“Not real fair, but then that is life,” she wrote on an Instagram post alongside a photo of the TV host resting up in a hospital bed. “At least we now know what we’re dealing with now. Annular Fissure or ruptured/torn disc.

“It’s been quite a number of years since I’ve seen my hubby in so much pain… OUCH!”
