About Karen Sander

Karen Sander lives in Brisbane, and recently celebrated her 60th birthday and 25 years post heart transplant. She was the 100th person in Queensland to receive a heart transplant. Now retired, she still enjoys weekly games of squash and spending time with husband Mark and children, Jessie and Jayden. Karen is a passionate community ambassador for DonateLife Queensland and regularly shares her story with community groups, encouraging more people to become organ and tissue donors. An avid sportswoman all her life, she has won dozens of medals competing in squash, swimming and badminton in the Transplant Games, representing Australia at an international level in Thailand and France.
