Tom Cruise has made no secret of his Scientology beliefs.

He’s made a rare public defence of his faith on the red carpet of the premiere of his new film Jack Reacher 2.

As part of his defence, he spoke about the impact Scientology had on his life.

“It’s something that has helped me incredibly in my life,’ he said.

“I’ve been a Scientologist for over 30 years.

“It’s something, you know, without it, I wouldn’t be where I am.

“So it’s a beautiful religion. I’m incredibly proud.”

So, what prompted him to comment?

Well, a reporter asked him about the upcoming documentary by Louis Theroux titled My Scientology Movie.

The movie is reportedly critical of the religion.

Cruise was introduced to Scientology in 1986 by his first wife Mimi Rogers.

He once credited the religion, founded by sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard, with helping him overcome dyslexia.

It’s not the first time he’s been heard praising the religion.

The Top Gun actor described being a Scientologist as a privilege in a leaked video in 2008.

“It’s something you have to earn,” he said.

“And because a Scientologist does, he or she has the ability to create new and better realities, and improve conditions.”

The Daily Mail reports the church was also forced to defend itself in the past, after former celebrity members claimed religious leaders encouraged them to shun people who turned their back on Scientology.

“Scientologists respect the faith of others, associate with and befriend members of every religion,” a rep said.

“Scientologists do not cut ties with non-Scientologist friends or family members because they have chosen another religion.

“Given that Scientology is a new religion, Scientologists often have family members and friends who are not Scientologists and who may practice another faith or no faith at all. This causes no conflict for Scientologists.”

What do you think of Tom Cruise’s defence of Scientology?

  1. win

It seems that other ex members tell a completely different side to it !!!

  2. Rita

go and talk to all the people that have been persecuted by this religion Tom – how much do you pay them to allow them to earn you the previledge??

  3. Macman2

Scientology was invented in an era when there was much superstition about electricity. I could build one of their original e-meters in a couple of hours. Even my ohmmeter does much the same thing.
Also if you have mental problems, don’t expect much sympathy or real world assistance from them.

  4. Geoff McKenzie

Have no idea what Scientology is,but if it’s a belief in science, and ridicules other religions, who cares!

    • Jude Power

Why comment if you have no idea? Scientology is definitely not scientific and it’s not a religion either: it just turned itself into one for tax purposes. In fact it’s a highly destructive manipulative cult: do some googling and I’m sure you’ll agree.

I care, because I care about vulnerable people (not talking about Tom Cruise obviously) are taken in by it and ripped off financially, emotionally, legally, physically and spiritually.

  5. Jude Power

Well, he would say that, wouldn’t he?

  6. Marnie

……faith’?……..it’s a CULT, along with several other destructive cults, in every way, pandering to the weak humans’, who gullibly hand-over their money.

My f-i-l was enticed into Mormonism because he’d the backbone of a jellyfish, & handed over 10% of his wages’ when he should’ve be looking after his family, of THREE children.
He NEVER even bought a washing-machine when babies’ arrived, letting all washing being done by HAND!
And he was in a well paid Bank job, that he walked straight back into after WWII.

These CULTS’ have much to answer for.
Same goes for Islamists, yet ANOTHER cult!

  7. GUY FLAVELL

Tom Cruise is totally justified in sincerely praising the wonderful Scientology religion. There are two people sitting alongside our Lord on high … Jesus Christ and L. Ron Hubbard.
Why should those with mental problems such as Catholics, homosexuals or Greens voters be admitted to our glorious religion ? And Marnie, you’re using ‘Ls’ rather than ‘Ns”.

Sorry about that garbage everyone … in a silly mood tonight. I really believe Cruise to be a total dill when it comes to Scientology. He can certainly act though and definitely pulls some gorgeous women.
