Melania and Ivanka Trump veiled and demure at Pope meeting

US president Donald Trump has met with Pope Francis at the Vatican in what looked to be a civil discussion. 

While Trump was seen grinning broadly, the Pope didn’t match his demeanour, only offering a slight smile to the cameras as her appeared to be all business. 

However, he did seem warmer towards Trump’s wife and daughter as he greeted them, and joked with Melania.

Both Trump women have been notably conservative in their outfit choices during this first official tour, out of respect to the customs in the nations they have visited. 

Despite having somewhat controversially not worn headscarves in Saudi Arabia, both Trump ladies wore traditional black veils as they visited the Holy City, along with long-sleeved, modest-length black dresses, in compliance with Vatican protocol.

Although neither the Pope nor the president divulged what was discussed during their meeting, readouts from the White House and the Vatican highlighted terrorism, climate change and peace as agenda items covered.

Trump seemed to take away a lot from his brief time with the Catholic leader. 

“Thank you. I won’t forget what you said,” Trump said as he left the Pope’s private study after a half-hour private meeting.
