Mel Gibson becomes a father again at 61

Daddy Gibson is in the house.

While most people spend their 60s babysitting their grandkids, Mel Gibson will be getting his hands dirty changing nappies and waking up for midnight feeds after welcoming his new son with girlfriend Rosalind Ross.

It’s the ninth child for Mel, 61, who he says he could not be happier to start the process all over again.

The couple chose a very European-sounding name for their baby boy, calling him Lars.

“They’re thrilled and Lars is adorable. Their family is all around them and Mel is over the moon. They’re home and everybody is healthy and happy!” a source told PEOPLE.

Mel joins a host of other older male celebrities who have said ‘hello’ to fatherhood all over again with their much-younger girlfriends.

While love certainly has no boundaries (legal age limits not withstanding!) it’s clear that hooking up with a younger parter means compromising on family matters.

Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin and Mick Jagger have all become fathers later in life and they seem to be absolutely loving it!

For many though the idea of having to start raising a family all over again in their 60s is their worst nightmare.

The lack of sleep, the constant worrying, the endless loads of washing… It’s enough to send most running for the hills!

Speaking about the age gap between the pair last year, Mel said for him age was no big deal.

“Regarding age and relationships, it’s just a number. We dig each other,” he said.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

Would you consider having more kids in your 60s? Or are you happy to stick to the grandkids for now?
