There’s cold and than there’s Lake Ontario cold! A photo of a house on the shore of Lake Ontario has gone viral thanks to its extraordinary makeover curtesy of one heck of a cold front.

Photographer John Kucko took the photo and shared it on his Facebook page where it quickly gained attention around the world thanks to its amazing subject.

The house, which sits on the New York side of the lake, has been freezing through minus zero degrees Celsius temperatures over the past few weeks and it looks like they finally took their toll.

“Frozen! The effects of heavy wind this week along Lake Ontario,” Kucko wrote with the picture.

The next day he wrote a follow up not saying he was overwhelmed with the reaction the picture had garnered in such a short time.

“Bit overwhelmed by the reaction the ‘Ice House’ is getting,” he said. “Many people think the images are photoshopped, they’re not.”

He also shared another photo showing the house from a different angle with the icicles jarring against the wind.

The frozen house and its neighbour are two of the only homes in the area to fall victim to the spray from the lake because they don’t have a retaining wall protecting them from the blow.

What do you think of these amazing pictures? Could you handle living somewhere this cold?
